MIAMI-DADE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO) ELECTS NEW CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
During their January 26, 2017 meeting, the Miami-Dade MPO Governing Board elected Board Member Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. as their Chairman, and re-elected Board Member Francis Suarez as their Vice Chairman, whom will both serve for a two-year term.
Chairman Bovo has served on the Miami-Dade County Commission as the District 13 Commissioner since November 2011, which includes Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Palm Springs North, and neighboring areas of unincorporated Miami-Dade. On December 6, 2016 he was also elected by his colleagues as Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC). He commenced his public service when he was appointed Councilman for the City of Hialeah in 1998. After being re-elected twice, Chairman Bovo’s colleagues selected him as President of the Hialeah City Council and he remained in that capacity throughout his term. In November 2008, he was elected as State Representative for District 110 and was re-elected without opposition in 2010. Chairman Bovo was born in Queens, New York to Marilyn and Esteban Bovo-Carás. As a member of the 2506 Brigade, his father instilled in his son the value of fighting for justice while his mother taught him the importance of compassion and service to the community. Chairman Bovo has been a proud resident of Miami-Dade County for over 47 years, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Florida International University. Chairman Bovo is married to Viviana and they have five children.
Vice Chairman Suarez has been a City of Miami Commissioner since November 17, 2009 and an MPO Board member since February 2012. Vice Chairman Suarez works diligently to raise the standards of the community that watched him grow up. He was born and raised in Miami and received his Law degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Florida. He began his law career as an associate at the Miami law firm of Haley, Sinagra, Paul & Toland, P.A. where he focused on commercial litigation matters and general transactional cases. He is the CEO/Owner of Edge Title Company, Inc., and was former General Counsel for the Doctor’s Management Group. He serves as a Board Member for Spectrum Programs, Inc. of the Miami Behavioral Center, Inc., and served as a Board Member for the Coral Gate Homeowners Association. Commissioner Suarez also served as a member of the Orange Bowl Restoration Committee of the City of Miami and is a member of the Florida and Federal Bar Associations. Vice Chairman Suarez is married to Gloria and they have one son.
